Mobile inflatable noise barriers

Buitink Technology develops and manufactures mobile inflatable noise barriers for temporary and semi-permanent applications in construction, infrastructure, industry and events. The systems are designed for flexible, rapidly deployable and demonstrably effective noise reduction in situations where fixed or heavy structures are undesirable or impossible.

The combination of low logistical impact, modular construction and proven acoustic performance makes these noise barriers a professional alternative to traditional noise control measures.

Inflatable noise barriers and noise reduction

What are mobile inflatable noise barriers?

Mobile inflatable noise barriers consist of modular, inflatable panels with a thickness of approximately 200–300 mm. The panels are inflated on site and together form a stable noise barrier with high sound insulation.

The structure is based on a combination of:

  • double membranes
  • air- and/or water-filled compartments
  • optional mass layers and absorbent materials

Depending on the configuration, the screens can be tuned to different sound sources and frequency ranges, including situations with dominant low frequencies.

Why choose inflatable noise barriers?

Temporary noise control is becoming increasingly important

Construction and infrastructure projects, temporary installations, industrial activities and events are subject to increasingly stringent noise emission requirements. In many situations, noise reduction measures are not only desirable, but necessary in order to comply with permits and regulations.

Practical advantages of inflatable systems

Buitink's inflatable noise barriers have been developed with a focus on practical usability:

  • Quick assembly and disassembly without heavy foundations
  • low weight and compact transport
  • Modular construction in height and length
  • Can be used at different locations
  • Suitable for project-based applications

This makes them particularly suitable for temporary situations where flexibility, speed and demonstrable performance are required.

Acoustic performance: substantiated and measurable

The noise reduction of the inflatable panels has been determined by means of laboratory measurements in accordance with applicable standards. Depending on the chosen configuration, noise reductions of approximately 20 dB to more than 50 dB are possible.

Key features:

  • Tested and documented Rw values
  • focus on low frequencies (Rw + Ctr)
  • Various mass and construction variants available

An overview of the various standard types and their corresponding acoustic performance can be found on the page:

Types and noise reduction

Modular construction and customisation

The mobile noise barriers are constructed according to a modular principle. Standard panels can easily be combined to form barriers of different heights and lengths.

When standard configurations are insufficient, customisation is possible within the same technical principle. Among other things, the following are adjusted:

  • panel structure and mass
  • screen height and geometry
  • construction and anchoring
  • alignment with specific sound sources

Typical applications

Mobile inflatable noise barriers are used in a variety of situations where temporary noise reduction is necessary, such as:

  • construction and infrastructure projects
  • road and rail-related works
  • temporary industrial installations
  • logistics activities (loading and unloading)
  • events and festivals

Legislation, standards and safety

The use of mobile noise barriers is closely linked to legislation and regulations, permit requirements and standards. European and national rules set limits on the permissible noise levels for the environment and employees.

Buitink's inflatable noise barriers are regularly used as an effective measure to meet these requirements.

Regulations governing noise barriers

Construction and stability

In addition to acoustic performance, structural safety and stability are essential. The screens are combined with temporary support and anchoring systems, tailored to:

  • screen height
  • wind load
  • surface
  • duration of application

Advice on temporary noise issues

Every situation is different. Buitink Technology combines acoustic knowledge, construction experience and practical applicability to create a suitable solution for each project.

For an initial assessment, we would prefer to receive:

  • description of the situation
  • type of noise source
  • Desired noise reduction
  • available space and screen height

Based on this, we recommend a suitable standard configuration or customised solution.
