Platform for wind turbine blades
The inside of a wind turbine rotor blade is narrow, long, and tapered. Inspections and repairs take place in locations that are only accessible through limited openings and are often far from the root opening.
This work requires a stable, temporary work platform that can be safely installed without internal scaffolding or heavy structures. This is particularly true for maintenance and repair of composite structures on the inside of the rotor blade.
Solution
Buitink Technology's inflatable work platform is transported to the rotor blade as a compact package and inflated on site. The platform forms a stable working floor that adapts to the internal geometry of the blade and positions itself in a controlled manner between the structural elements.
Operation
After positioning, the platform is inflated with compressed air until the desired stability is achieved. During inflation, the platform clamps itself evenly against the inside of the rotor blade, creating a safe working surface without point loads or damage to composite structures.
Technical characteristics
The platform is designed for use in the confined space of rotor blades and meets the requirements for safe internal maintenance.
- Fits through existing root and inspection openings
- Lightweight and compact for transport
- Quick installation and removal
- Even pressure distribution against the laminate
- Non-slip working surface
- Versions available for composite repairs
Applications
The work platform is used for internal work on rotor blades where stability and working comfort are required.
- Inspection of adhesive joints and internal structures
- Repair of composite damage on the inside
- Preparatory work such as cleaning and sanding
- Installation or replacement of internal components
