Hot summers are no longer the exception. Schoolyards, day nurseries, playgrounds, open-air pools and care home terraces often lack exactly what helps most: large, reliable shade. Trees take decades to grow. A Flextent shade roof is built in a short time.

Buitink Technology designs, engineers, manufactures and installs textile shade roofs. The double-curved shape makes them stable; the fabric is opaque and blocks direct sunlight. We choose the version to suit the site: fixed on timber trunks for schoolyards, nurseries and playgrounds, or mobile and guyed for temporary use.

Fixed on timber trunks: for schoolyards, nurseries and playgrounds

Where children play and run, we build the shade roof on sturdy, debarked timber trunks set firmly in the ground. There are no guy ropes, straps or ground anchors in walking areas, so nothing to trip over. The timber blends naturally into schoolyards, parks and playgrounds.

Mobile and guyed: shade for a season or an occasion

Need shade for just one season, a summer fête or a holiday programme, or temporarily until a permanent solution is in place? Then choose the mobile version. It stands on slender timber poles and is guyed to ground anchors. Set-up and dismantling are quick, and afterwards the area is free again.

Installing the fixed version, trunk by trunk

For the fixed version we drill a hole for each trunk, set the trunk with a loader, plumb it, backfill with chippings and compact. Depth and diameter are determined for each site: we calculate wind loads and anchoring ourselves. Then the fabric roof is fitted and tensioned. Our own installation team also works abroad.

Sun sail on four trunks

For smaller areas there is the sun sail on four timber trunks: two high and two low points create a tensioned, twisted surface that handles wind well and sheds rainwater. Ideal over a seating group, a terrace or a play area.

Mobile in use: pools, care homes, sports fields

The mobile version stands on grass, sand or paving. Together with you, we position the guying points so that walkways stay clear as far as possible. Size, height and colour are chosen just as for the fixed version.
