Cleaning and maintenance of tensile membrane structures

A well-built tensile membrane structure needs little maintenance. An annual inspection is usually enough. We check the overall condition of the fabric, the pretension and the detailing, cables, fittings and fixings.

During the inspection we also assess whether cleaning is necessary or advisable. Dirt, algae and deposits gradually attack the top coat of the fabric. We clean with agents matched to the coating, so the fabric becomes clean without damaging the protective top coat, on the upper and the lower side.

Frequently asked questions

How often should a membrane structure be inspected?
We recommend an annual inspection, plus an extra check after a heavy storm or snow load.

Can a dirty or greyed fabric be cleaned?
In most cases, yes. We first test on a small area which agent and method give the best result without damaging the top coat.

Do you also maintain canopies built by others?
Yes. We also maintain and repair membrane structures and canopies built by other contractors.

When is replacement better than repair?
If the coating is damaged over large areas or the fabric is losing strength, we advise replacement. We make the new fabric to measure in our own workshop.
